Introducing the ATSC Communities of Practice
Background
An exciting new development at ATSC has been the recent decision to provide more structure for employee professional development through Communities of Practice. Internally known as CoPs, these communities have had great success in a company recently acquired by ATSC, where the focus on professional enrichment became a core tenet in the drive toward sustainable growth. With ATSC’s corporate philosophy firmly centered on partners delivering results, it is of particular importance that we remember to nurture the individuals who develop those partnerships, and who actually deliver those results.
What is a Community?
Communities consist of like-minded individuals who share a passion for collaborative creation and a shared interest in mutual achievement. Successful communities benefit ATSC’s customers and stakeholders by enabling our staff to deliver the highest-quality products and services.
The following beliefs are the cornerstones of our communities:
- Long-term success of an organization is intrinsically linked to the continued growth of its employees and teams.
- Building an empowered, sustainable and fulfilling career is predicated on active investment in personal growth.
- A collaborating team exceeds the sum of its parts, and through dialog, it reaches insights perhaps unreachable by an individual.
Our communities of practice cover a broad spectrum of interests, which we fully expect will evolve and expand.
Currently, our communities represent:
- Project Management
- Requirements Management
- Systems Architecture and Design
- Quality Assurance and Testing
- Process Improvement
- Development Tools
- Agile Practices
- Enterprise Architecture and Security
Communities Benefit Individuals
As diverse individuals with varying skills and levels of experience, our employees have a valuable opportunity to learn from, and with, the other members of a community.
As a cohesive team, community members will often enjoy far greater control and input into:
- Corporate Strategy
- Evaluations and Rewards
- New Business Development
- Recruitment
Communities Benefit Our Customers
Employees are not alone in receiving benefit from our communities of practice. It is often our customers who experience the greater value and impact by:
- Leveraging a support network that extends beyond a single individual to an entire community of expertise.
- Working with individuals abreast of the latest techniques, tools and technologies.
At ATSC, we firmly believe that true success is achieved through partners delivering results for the whole community.
