Joe Saponaro
Mr. Joseph A. Saponaro has served as our director since May 5, 2006. He has over 40 years of experience in information technology software systems, services, and products for the US Government and the commercial market, and has served as a member of senior management with responsibility for profit and loss for over 27 years. His experience includes developing approaches to internal growth as well as the successful closing of mergers and acquisitions, and their successful integration following post closing.
Mr. Saponaro is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of FPMI Solutions, Inc., a privately held company providing human resources services to federal government agencies. From November 2003 to April 2006 , Mr. Saponaro was president of L-3 Government Services Inc (GSI) , a $500 million, 2,000-employee - wholly owned subsidiary of L-3 Communications. L-3 GSI provides information technology, engineering services, intelligence services and intrusion detection security systems to the Department of Defense, federal agencies, intelligence agencies and state and local government organizations.
Prior to joining L-3 GSI, Mr. Saponaro served as Sector President and General Manager of a $300 million business unit of The Titan Corporation. This Titan Sector focused on providing information technology services to the federal civilian market involving network management services, software development and critical systems independent verification and validation. Prior to Titan, he was President of AverStar, which was acquired in June 2000 by Titan, a private company providing software and systems services to both commercial and government markets with approximately $250 million in annual revenues and 1,850 employees.
AverStar was formed by Intermetrics in 1998 where Mr. Saponaro was employed for nearly 30 years. Intermetrics was a leader in software technology inparticular for designing programming languages and building state of the art software development tools optimized for efficient code and reliability. He was President and CEO of Intermetrics (a public company) for 14 years prior to the formation of AverStar.
Prior to Intermetrics, Mr. Saponaro held a number of engineering and management positions at GTE and System Development Corp (SDC). At SDC he played a key role in building the on board flight Guidance, Navigation and Control software for all of the APOLLO missions.
Mr. Saponaro has a B.S. in Navigation and Astronomy from the Maritime Academy, an M.S. in Mathematics from Northeastern University, and has completed coursework toward a Ph.D. in Aeronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
